If you are a captain or an owner’s
representative, you will understand that refitting is a specialised art. We
have tried to synthesise our vision on this
here.
And various captains have explained how we put this into practice
here.
On these pages we would like to
directly address some of the issues that you will be taking into consideration
when deciding where to go for a refit.
Refit focused facilities
Balk Shipyard is a family-run
enterprise that dates back over 200 years. Our facilities have been designed
with the needs and requirements of the refit market to the fore. While other
yards also invest heavily in their facilities, their primary goal is to build
new yachts: Refits are a secondary consideration. At Balk we are primarily focused
on the refit market, and yet we also have the ability to build superstructure parts for
extensions and the like.
Refit support
Each refit or rebuild is assigned a
dedicated project manager, who will be your first point of call at all times.
You will also have your own area of the yard where everything that is taken off your yacht is carefully
stored. This ensures that nothing gets mixed up or
lost.
Refit flexibility
Recognising that time is of the
essence, our operations have been
optimised in terms of logistics and
the particular demands of refits. We also know from practical experience that
things can change as refits progress, calling for maximum flexibility
Your offices and meeting rooms
There are offices available for
captains and owner’s representatives, and a brand-new dedicated office complex
will be completed in the very near future. The boardroom and another meeting room are
available for meetings with the project team, suppliers and the owner should he
or she come to the yard. As
an extra bonus for owners, they can watch the work being carried out on their
yacht from a special balcony.
The yard also has dedicated showers and
laundry facilities for crews, and wireless internet is available throughout the
complex.
