At Balk Shipyard, we believe expertise starts with people. Our colleagues Wouter van Rijn and Gerwin Bakker each bring over 25 years of experience in maritime engineering and yacht building. When you contact us for a refit, rebuild or survey, you’ll likely speak to one of these two specialists. ur colleagues Wouter van Rijn and Gerwin Bakker each bring over 25 years of experience in maritime engineering and yacht building.

Maritime background: Wouter van Rijn

Wouter began his career after graduating from maritime school, logging over 100,000 nautical miles aboard cargo and cruise vessels. He later transitioned into yacht building and managed numerous new builds ranging from 20 to 40 metres. His track record includes roles at Jongert, Claasen, Vitters, and now Balk Shipyard as Sales Engineer. A former sailing instructor and regatta sailor, he combines technical expertise with a passion for performance on the water.

At Balk Shipyard, we believe expertise starts with people. Our colleagues Wouter van Rijn and Gerwin Bakker each bring over 25 years of experience in maritime engineering and yacht building.

International service: Gerwin Bakker

Gerwin originally studied aviation technology but found his calling in yacht building. He joined Vitters in 1998 and quickly grew from production to global aftersales, supporting yachts and their crews around the world. Later, as production manager, he led major refit and new build projects. Since joining Balk Shipyard, Gerwin finds the most fulfilment in refits and rebuilds, where close contact with crew and short lines of communication are key.
